Roberts' Poor Reviews Affecting Ticket Sales

US ticket brokers are struggling to sell tickets for JULIA ROBERTS' New York theatre debut, after the actress received a string of poor reviews for her performance in THREE DAYS OF RAIN. Roberts was lambasted for being "stiff with self-consciousness" and having "surprisingly little stage presence" when the play opened on Broadway in April (06). Despite all tickets selling out to the theatre prior to opening, ticket brokers admit they are finding it difficult to sell the tickets on and are being forced to cut prices as much as 25 per cent lower. JENNIFER SWANSON, senior communications manager of the TicketsNow agency, tells the New York Daily News, "We're selling a lot of their tickets, but they seem to be going for considerably less than face value. "We had a pair of front-row tickets for (last night's) show that went for just $75. Now that's a bargain." The show's producer MARC PLATT insists he is happy with the audience turn-out, saying, "The house is full, the tickets are sold, the audiences are happy. "One wishes it had been better received by the critics, but that's the way it goes."
