Ronstadt To Continue Praising Michael Moore
LATEST: Singer Linda Ronstadt isn't planning to back away from her public support for filmmaker Michael Moore and his FAHRENHEIT 9/11 movie - because she wants people to be more aware of political matters.
The former pin-up was forced to cut short a string of shows at Las Vegas, Nevada's Aladdin casino when comments she made praising Moore during a show on Saturday night (17JUL04) led to protests.
Reports suggest Ronstadt's Republican fans grew angry when the singer complimented Moore on his anti-PRESIDENT BUSH film. Some walked out and others ripped down posters outside the venue.
The singer was later escorted off the premises by Aladdin staff.
But, despite the fuss, Ronstadt has no plans to keep her thoughts to herself.
She says, "This is an election year. I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues, and go and vote. I'm not telling them how to vote. I'm saying, get information about the issues."
The 58-year-old insists she wasn't thrown out of the casino for her remarks, despite reports to the contrary.
She states, "I didn't even know there was trouble... I had already said I never want to come back."
Meanwhile, Ronstadt's comments have had a knock-on effect for her current tour - Los Angeles' UNIVERSAL AMPHITHEATRE venue received over 100 calls for refunds for the singer's performance last night (20JUL04).21/07/2004 21:33
