British author Salman Rushdie has delayed his honeymoon - to attend a New York gala for the PEN writer's group this evening (20APR04).

The SATANIC VERSES writer, 56, wed long term love Padma Lakshmi, 31, in the city on Saturday (17APR04) in a glitzy ceremony attended by famous pals LOU REED, Steve Martin and Ismail Merchant.

And now the happy couple are working on a new project together, with Rushdie keen to cast his bride in the movie version of his short story THE FIREBIRD'S NEST.
