Russia Wins Big At Moscow Film Festival

A stirring film about the German invasion of Russia has dominated this year's (04) MOSCOW FILM FESTIVAL.

The festival's jury, headed by British filmmaker ALAN PARKER, awarded three of five top prizes to local director DMITRY MESKHIEV's (corr) SVOI (OUR OWN), including the GOLD ST GEORGE honour for Best Film.

The movie, for which Meskhiev also claimed Best Director, was first screened on 22 June (04) - the 63rd anniversary of the invasion.

Russian films dominated the festival, but Argentina's TALKING WITH MOM picked up a Best Actress prize for CHINA ZORRILLA (corr) and Japanese film HOTEL VENUS was honoured with a Perspectives Prize.

Actress MERYL STREEP, who was honoured with the closing night's KONSTANTIN STANISLAVZSKY (corr) 'I BELIEVE' award for her lifetime achievement.

Streep was joined by other big film celebrities such as QUENTIN TARANTINO, DAVID CARRADINE and RUPERT EVERETT at this year's film festival.
