Screen Icon Karen Morley Dies
Blond movie icon Karen Morley has died at the MOTION PICTURE COUNTRY HOUSE in California. She was 93.
The actress shot to fame in films like MATA HARI and Scarface in the 1930s but her career was cut short in 1947 when she refused to answer questions at a Congressional hearing about her possible involvement with the Communist Party.
Born MILDRED LINTON in Iowa on 12 December, 1909, Morley was adopted by a well-off family who moved to Los Angeles in the 1920s.
She studied for a career in medicine, but fell in love with acting after attending a drama class.
In 1954, she ran for lieutenant governor in New York for the American Labor Party. She was unsuccessful in her bid.
