Smiths Stars Marr And Rourke Reunite After 19 Years
Guitarist Marr and bassist Rourke teamed up at a charity fundraiser for the Christie Hospital in their hometown of Manchester, England. They last performed together as part of The Smiths in 1987.
Taking the stage with his band THE HEALERS, Marr launched into a version of The Smiths' THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT, before Rourke joined them for another Smiths number, HOW SOON IS NOW?
Marr told the sell-out crowd at the Manchester Evening News Arena: "I first played with this guy at school in 1978 and we last played together in 1987.
"We've done some good things and some not so good things, but it's been too long really and now is a good a time as ever."
New Order also contributed to the historic night, playing a set comprised entirely of JOY DIVISION songs. New Order emerged from the ashes of Joy Division in the early 1980s, who split following frontman IAN CURTIS' suicide in 1980.
