Sylvester Stallone's new boxing reality show The Contender had a disappointing first round on Monday night (07MAR05) - only 8.1 million Americans watched it.

The show, billed as the most expensive reality show ever, was expected to be the number one show for the night - but it wasn't even the top show in its time slot.

The show, which pits 16 wannabe fighters against each other, was supposed to debut last year (04) but was stalled when boxer Oscar De La Hoya created a rival show.

The Contender plays again tomorrow night (10MAR05) in America before settling into its regular weekly slot on Sunday nights.

MADMAXX

The contender rematches showed the corruption and lack of credibility that pervades in boxing. The judges who gave those last two decisions should be fired. If I were Mr. Stallone and wanted to maintain any credible belief that the contender series deserved any respect, I'd openly question the judging of those fights. I don't believe I'll be watching boxing anytime soon and hope other people fed up with it will do the same. Maybe boxing will someday find some honesty and integrity, but with the current people running it I doubt that will ever occur.
