Former THE Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has urged fans not to bother campaigning to save his birthplace, because he feels little emotional attachment to the house.

The home in the Toxteth district of Liverpool, England, will be bulldozed as part of a massive regeneration project in the city.

But in a bid to appease protestors the local council offered to rebuild the building brick-by-brick so it can be preserved elsewhere.

However Starr, who only lived in the house for the first three months of his life, has no interest in saving the property because he can't remember staying there.

He says, "I don't see the sense in it. You are going to have to put a plaque saying ' Ringo Starr was born here'.

"Don't bother rebuilding my house brick-by-brick so you can still say I was born there."

I am sure that Ringo has a valid point about not seeing a point in saving his place of birth. However, if there was nothing there it would leave a hole in Liverpool's Magistical Mystery Tour of Beatles sights.

I think it's alright for Ringo to have this attitude, becauses he has the wherewithall to buy any other property elsewhere, but what he is forgetting is that there are other people who now live in these houses, which cannot afford and who do not want to move.So come on Ringo, help these people in the fight to save their homes, even if you are not bothered any more. Think about it, these people and their families where the ones who bought your records and went to you gigs and made you (and the Beatles) famous! Put something back into the community where you were born and give these people some support.
