Stars Pay Tribute To Billy Preston

A host of stars including Sir Paul McCartney, THE Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton have paid tribute to legendary keyboard player Billy Preston at an emotional funeral service held yesterday (20JUN06). Preston, who performed with both THE Beatles and the Rolling Stones, died earlier this month (06JUN06) after being in a coma in a US care facility since late last year (NOV05). Hundreds of friends and relatives turned out to pay their last respects to the star at the Faithful Central Bible Church's Tabernacle Worship Center in Inglewood, California. Little Richard addressed the mourners by hailing his late protege's musical genius, insisting, "He made that piano walk and talk. There's nobody in this world who could play the piano like Billy Preston." Meanwhile, letters written by MCCartney, The Rolling Stones, Clapton and others who toured and recorded with Preston were read out. MCCartney wrote, "I am deeply saddened to lose such a wonderful friend. I love you Billy." Earlier in the memorial service, Joe Cocker prompted loud applause with his rendition of YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL, which Preston wrote.
