Staunton Anxious Over Oscar Expectations

Imelda Staunton is unsure about the expected etiquette at this year's (27FEB05) Academy Awards ceremony after organisers changed the show's format.

The VERA DRAKE star now will be required to take to the stage with fellow Best Actress nominees Kate Winslet and Hilary Swank as they wait with baited breath for the winner to be announced.

But Staunton is terrified about the uncomfortable onstage moment, because she has no idea how Oscar bosses want nominees to behave.

The 49-year-old says, "What do they want from us? Should I faint when they open the envelope?

"It will be very hard to be on stage when they say, 'And the winner is... none of you lot!' In fact, I would be extremely surprised if they did that with us actors."

However, fellow nominee Sophie Okonedo, who is competing against CATE BLANCHETT and Natalie Portman for Best Supporting Actress, intends to make the most of her night at Hollywood's Kodak Theater.

She says, "I'm really excited. The more fun we can have on the night the better. It's not exactly a life-or-death situation, is it?"
