Streisand Hits Back At Controversial New Biography
Singer/actress Barbra Streisand has blasted an unofficial new biography which explores her love life as "mean-spirited mythology". BARBRA: THE WAY SHE IS by CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON claims Streisand is "cheap", has a "MARIA CALLAS-sized ego", is prone to huge tantrums and has a star-studded list of former conquests. Warren Beatty, Ryan O'Neal, Steve McQueen, Kris Kristofferson, Don Johnson, Jon Voight, Elliott Gould, Andre Agassi, Richard Gere, Omar Sharif, Liam Neeson and Peter Jennings are just some of the men linked with her. But she writes on her website, "Does the truth matter these days? Normally, I would not dignify vicious, mean-spirited mythology masquerading as biography. "But it seems that this latest rehashing of other unauthorised biographies is getting a lot of attention. Who is the person described in this book? Certainly not anyone I know. This stereotypic image bears very little resemblance to me or anything about me. "No one who knows me well or has really worked with me professionally was a source for this book. What motivates people to make up negative stories? Why isn't the truth enough? One example, to say that I was in the same city as my sister on her wedding day and refused to attend, is a lie. "I was in London filming YENTL. And on and on and on. I will not dignify any other untruths by responding any further. Maybe it's finally time for an authorised biography."
