Barbra Streisand has been embraced by dog lovers around the world since recording her new track SMILE.

The singing superstar, whose new release THE MOVIE ALBUM includes the tribute to her late dog SAMMY, has received bundles of correspondence from fans since she recorded the track.

According to Streisand's publicist Dick Guttman, she has even nicknamed the track SAMMY'S SONG, after her four-legged companion of nine years died of cancer two days before she recorded the ballad in July (03).

Guttman says, "Pet lovers who have experienced the loss of their own pets have written in, saying how the song has helped them too.

"Barbra really loved Sammy, and it means a lot to her that the song is helping others who are grieving."

America's HUMANE SOCIETY has even picked the song as its official ANTHEM OF SPIRIT for those who have lost a pet.
