Velvet Revolver, the supergroup made up of ex GUNS N'ROSES stars and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland, are to cement their formation with a live show.

The group, who came together earlier this year (03) and also features Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff Mckagan and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' DAVID HUSHNER, will perform their first show tonight (19JUN03) at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre.

Guitarist Slash is convinced his new group are going to "blow away the competition", despite Weiland's recent drug problems.

He says, "Weiland is just awesome. We've been writing new songs. He's a great singer, and he's a great arranger. The music just sounds unique.

"We just fit together as a band. There's not this weird subconscious pressure going on that something's not right."

The group's first single, SET ME FREE, which features on the soundtrack to summer (03) blockbuster The Hulk, hit stores earlier this week (beg16JUN03). The track is currently the number two most-downloaded song on Apple's new iTUNES website.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the group insists Weiland is "doing well" after his drug arrest and subsequent rehab stint last month (MAY03).

The spokesman says, "He's very open and honest about his problem. He wants to be OK. Velvet Revolver is a very constructive thing in his life and the guys are so incredibly supportive of him and tough at the same time."
