Village People 'Cop' To Stand Trial For Drugs
LATEST: Former VILLAGE PEOPLE singer VICTOR EDWARD WILLIS will stand trial on drug-related charges following his arrest last month (MAR06). The troubled 54-year-old was arrested in San Francisco, California, on 26 March (06) after a routine traffic stop, when he was allegedly found to be in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. At the time of his arrest, Willis had been missing since he failed to attend sentencing on 20 October (05) following an arrest in July (05), when he was allegedly found to be in possession of cocaine and a loaded handgun in Daly City, California. Willis, who is currently being held without bail at Redwood City jail, attended San Mateo County court on Monday (10APR06), where a judge decided to place him on trial. Prosecutor MORLY PITT says Willis has three cases pending against him, including charges of probation violation and cocaine possession. The YMCA hitmaker, who left the Village People in 1979, will return to court next Tuesday (18APR06) and again on 25 April (06).
