Pop hunks Westlife are teaming up with veteran Rod Stewart to give both their careers a boost by recording a lucrative Christmas single.

The Irish BOP BOP BABY fivepiece are recording a single with Rod to hopefully reach an older audience - while the DO YA THINK I'M SEXY? singer is trying to appeal to younger record-buyers.

Rod is particularly friendly with Westlife member Nicky Byrne as they share a love of soccer and both considered playing the game professionally before taking up careers in the pop world.

The song, suspected to be a cover of a classic tune, will be released in time for the traditional battle for the Christmas (03) number one slot.

Westlife's svengali manager Louis Walsh confirms, "We're definitely doing a track with Rod. It's an exciting project.

"Everyone's agreed to do it. Now we just need to free up the time to head into the studio when Westlife finish their current tour."
