Winstone: 'Actors Don't Need The Method'
British actor Ray Winstone has dismissed method acting as unnecessary, because it's impossible to proactively research truly evil roles. Winstone was struck by the versatility of his Sexy Beast co-star SIR Ben Kingsley, mainly because he enjoyed watching the GANDHI Oscar winner play a foul-mouthed, crazed mobster. And Kingsley's performance reminded Winstone that acting is about bringing out what is already within - no matter how dark it is. He says, "How do you research being a child-molester? A wife-basher? Do you go and do it? "In Sexy Beast, Ben Kingsley played a really nasty gangster, and I thought, 'Hang on a minute, this is Gandhi.' "But he said to me, 'This is part of me. There's a dark side within all of us.'"
