2011 Bet Hip Hop Awards Suffer Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, No Show
The 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta was a predictably high profile affair on Tuesday (11th October 2011), with dazzling performances from the likes of DMX and Wiz Khalifa, but the ceremony was marred by no-shows from Chris Brown and the Young Money Camp, reports MTV News.
Despite scooping three awards, rehabilitated rapper Chris Brown was not in the house to collect his gongs. Instead, hip-hop veteran Busta Rhymes accepted the honours on behalf of his friend and collaborator. Brown scooped trophies for 'Best Hip Hop Video' and 'Best Collaboration', while also being named the 'People's Champ'. Young Money boss Lil Wayne was victorious in the categories of 'Best Live Performer' and 'Lyricist of the Year', however, he too was absent from the ceremony held at the Atlanta Civic Centre. Not one individual from Young Money attended the awards, despite singer Nicki Minaj winning a further two awards. There has been no explanation for the stars' absence, although during his acceptance speech, BUSSA BUS explained that Chris Brown was "getting a lot of money" for his current tour.
This year's ceremony, hosted by comedian Mike Epps, featured a tribute to rapper LL Cool J who was honoured with the 'I Am Hip Hop Icon' Award.
