Martin Scorsese will return back to the crime genre by adapting the seventh book in Norwegian writer Jo Nesbo's series of novels, 'The Snowman'. Martin Scorsese has actually signed on to direct the piece according to The Guardian Newspaper.

The novel sees Nesbo's oslo detective Harry Hole investigating a case where a serial killer always leaves a snowman behind near the scene of his crime. Nesbo has gained a reputation for becoming one of the most successful Scandinavian writers at the moment, and he reportedly had final choice of director for this movie. What is already known is that Nesbo will not insist on the film being set in Norway, whilst Matthew Michael Carnahan, who wrote the upcoming Brad Pitt zombie flick 'World War Z,' will be working on the screenplay. Working Title is backing the production. No more details over the movie have been released. This movie will follow David Fincher's forthcoming Hollywood adaptation of Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' featuring Daniel Craig, another hugely successful Scandinavian series, but Fincher has decided to stay close to the source material and keep his film in Sweden.

Scorsese's next movie will be 'Hugo', also based on Brian Selznick's Caldecott medal-winning children's novel 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret', out this week in cinemas. It features Ben KingsleySacha Baron Cohen, Ray Winstone and Jude Law. It has also been recently announced that Scorsese will produce 'The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt ', which won't be in cinemas until at least 2013.
