ABC, a ratings also-ran except during Academy Awards week, became a strong contender last week as it posted its best ratings among total adults and the key 18-49 demographic in moire than two years. The result was attributed to strong performances from its two editions of Dancing With The Stars , improved numbers for the Country Music Association Awards, and a ballooning audience for its new Drama Once Upon a Time. Football once again proved to be a potent ratings grabber, with networks scoring wins with the sport -- NCAA or NFL -- on Monday, Thursday and Sunday. NBC once again boasting the No. 1 telecast of the week -- and little else -- for Sunday Night Football. CBS once again managed to win the week among total adults while Fox eked out a win among viewers 18-49. All of the evening newscasts showed significant ratings improvement. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams led with 9.38 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer placed second with 8.28 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley trailed but managed to increase its viewership to 6.48 million -- one of the trailing newscast's best results in recent years. For the week in total adults, CBS led with an average 6.8 rating and an 11 share, just squeezing by ABC with a 6.6/11. Fox was third with a 4.6/7, slightly ahead of NBC with a 4.3/7.
