Stage And Screen Star Jayne Meadows Allen Has Died At The Age Of 95.
Allen, the wife of first The Tonight Show host Steve Allen, passed away of natural causes in her Encino, California home on Sunday night (26Apr15).
Allen's six decade career featured credits in 1946's Undercurrent, David and Bathsheba, Song of the Thin Man, Casino and Lady in the Lake. She also co-starred with her husband in College Confidential, and portrayed Billy Crystal's mother in the City Slickers franchise.
Allen was also a regular panelist on U.S. game shows I've Got a Secret, To Tell The Truth and What's My Line, and was nominated for three Emmy Awards for her roles in Meeting of Minds, St. Elsewhere and High Society.
Allen was also a staple in the theatre world, performing in Broadway shows such as The Gazebo, Once in a Lifetime and Many Happy Returns. She also toured America for seven years with her one-woman show, Powerful Women in History, which earned her the International Platform Association Award.
She also received the Susan B. Anthony Award for her continued positive portrayals of women.
Jayne and Steve Allen's only son, Bill Allen, paid tribute to his late mum in a statement to Entertainment Tonight, which reads: "She was not only an extraordinarily gifted actress who could move audiences from laughter to tears and back again all in one scene, but she was the greatest story teller I have ever known and I will miss her endlessly fascinating and frequently hilarious anecdotes about her life and the many brilliantly talented people she worked with and befriended along the way. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten."
