Adele Beaten By Hackers In Time's 100 Most Influential List?

Time magazine's '100 Most Influential People in the World' for 2012 has been released, with the likes of Adele, Rihanna and President Barack Obama finding themselves in the upper echelons of the annual list. Others in the Top 10 include the comedian Louis CK and the New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow - but have Time editors excluded a global band of hackers?

Time readers were encouraged to vote for who they thought should make the list from a shortlist earlier this month. However, according to the Huffington Post, it was hacker-activists Anonymous Operations who topped the list with 395,793 votes as of 5pm on April 6 2012 when voting closed. At that time, Anonymous ranked well ahead of Adele, Obama and Apple CEO Tim Cook, though only appeared at No.36 when the magazine was released this week. Describing the group, Time said, "United, if at all, by a taste for shock humor and disdain for authority, this leaderless Internet hive brain is plundering and playing in the electronic networks of an ever shifting enemies list: Arab dictatorships, the Vatican, banking and entertainment firms, the FBI and CIA, the security firm Stratfor and even San Francisco's BART transport system." There have already been allegations that Anonymous actually hacked the Time poll and rigged the results. This is nothing new, with reporting that three years ago, the operator of the '4Chan' hackers Christopher Poole topped the poll with 16 million votes.

Others to make this year's list include the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and her sister PIPPA MIDDLETON.
