Adele wasn't expecting to win a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

The 24-year-old singer was left reeling at the acclaim for her self-penned James Bond song 'Skyfall' and joked that she had only turned up at the star-studded awards ceremony in 'Los Angeles' on Sunday evening (13.01.13) for the novelty and to have a laugh with her friend Ayda Field.

As she collected her award, she laughed: ''Oh my God. Oh my God. Honestly, I've come out for a night out with my friend Ayda. We're new mums. We've literally come for a night out, I was not expecting this.

''It's very strange to be here and thank you so much for letting me be part of your world for a night. It's amazing, we've been p*****g ourselves laughing, you know.''

The 'Someone Like You' chart-topper wowed in an elegant black Burberry gown and wore her hair swept off her face for her first red carpet appearance since giving birth 12 weeks ago.

She arrived with close pal Ayda, who welcome her daughter Theodora 'Teddy' Rose with husband Robbie Williams two months ago.

Adele - who has chosen to keep her son's name a secret - paid tribute to her tiny tot and boyfriend Simon Konecki as she accepted the accolade.

She said: ''This is for my boyfriend who convinced me to do it and for my lovely son.''

Speaking on the red carpet earlier in the evening, she described the experience of working with 007 helmer Sam Mendes as ''amazing''.

The shy singer explained: ''I was very pregnant and very emotional, but it was amazing. I got the script a long time ago and it took me quite a while for them to convince me. It's a big responsibility.''
