British singer Adele scooped two awards at Q magazine's music awards in London on Monday (24th October 2011). The 23-year-old, who recently enjoyed monumental success in the UK and U.S. with album '21', was unable to attend the event at the Grosvenor House Hotel through illness, reports Bbc News.
The singer, whose awards were picked up by producer Paul Epworth, scooped Best Female Artist and Best Track for 'Rolling in the Deep' - her ballad 'Someone Like You' was also nominated in the same category. Other prizes went to rock band Coldplay, who picked up the 'Best Act in the World Today'. Readers of the monthly publication, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, voted U2 as the best band of the magazine's lifetime. Attending the event to receive the award, front-man Bono told reporters, "It's a truly great thing. They're so important for anyone that wants to take all their music all the way". Elsewhere, young songwriter Ed Sheeran won the 'Next Big Thing' award, while U.S. singer Bon Iver scooped the gong for Best Album for his self-titled second record, fending off stiff competition from Mercury Prize winner PJ Harvey. Before picking up the 'Icon Award', former Oasis guitarist turned solo singer Noel Gallagher basked in the glory of Manchester City's famous 6-1 win over Manchester United at the weekend, saying, "I've got to say, the football overshadowed everything yesterday". Gallagher's solo record 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' topped the UK charts on Sunday (23rd October 2011), beating the recently reformed Steps.
Elsewhere, Take That front-man turned X Factor judge Gary Barlow was honoured with the 'Classic Songwriter' award, while this year's Q Hall of Fame inductees were rockers QUEEN.
