Alec Baldwin - Alec Baldwin Says 9/11 Made Air Travel 'Inelegant'

Alec Baldwin has apologized to fellow American Airlines passengers after their flight was delayed by his refusal to stop playing the cell phone game 'Words with Friends' on Wednesday (December 7, 2011). In a letter to the Huffington Post, the 30 Rock Star claimed it was never his intention to inconvenience anyone, but claimed a certain flight attendant had behaved unacceptably towards him.
Certain passengers travelling out of Los Angeles had tweeted of their dismay at the long delay after Baldwin was ejected from the flight, but the actor attempted to assuage the bad feeling, saying, "I would like to apologize to the other passengers onboard the American Airlines flight that I was thrown off of yesterday". However, in a scathing criticism of modern air travel, Baldwin compared the experience of flying with American Airlines to riding a Greyhound bus, adding, "September 11th was a horrific day in the airline industry, yet in the wake of that event, I believe carriers and airports have used that as an excuse to make the air travel experience as inelegant as possible". The actor, who has often hinted at moving into politics, particularly as Mayor of New York, claimed he began playing on his phone after the plane sat stationary at the gate for around 15 minutes, saying, "I was singled out by this woman in the most unpleasant of tones. I guess the fact that this woman, who had decided to make some example of me, while everyone else was left undisturbed, did get the better of me". In a post on their Facebook page after yesterday's incident, American Airlines said it was in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations that mobile phones and other electronic devices are required to be turned off as soon as the airliner's door has been closed - the company said Baldwin had refused to comply.
Some of Alec's fellow passengers have defended the actor's behaviour, including legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya who told the Los Angeles Times, "I actually felt Alec Baldwin was turning off his devices, and he just got a little angry". The 30 Star once featured in a series of comical television ads for Capital One credit cards - one of which saw him stroll through an airport and relax into his seat while surrounded by air hostesses.
