Alex Pettyfer was intrigued by his 'I Am Number Four' character's "normality".

The British actor - who plays John Smith, one of handful of survivors of an alien race with special powers who now reside on Earth in the sci-fi thriller - was attracted to the movie because of the idea of him being "reluctant" to use his abilities.

He revealed: "I think it's the story of John, he is this unique character and he's reluctant to be a hero. We haven't seen that in a while.

"Give any 20-year-old kid superpowers and I'm sure none of them would deny that they would want to use them and I find it very intriguing that someone like John just wants normality."

Alex has previously revealed he would love to have the ability to fly if he was given the opportunity to use a superpower.

He said: "In the movie I've got telekinesis and I've got lumen, which is a source of light that I can use. But there are so many things I would want in real life-one power would definitely be the ability to fly."
