Alexander Skarsgard hates being thought of as a sex symbol.

The 36-year-old 'True Blood' hunk wishes people would focus on his acting rather than his looks.

He told E! News: ''I'm an actor, not a sex symbol. If you're vain and you're like, 'Oh my fans won't like it if I'm a little chubby or if I'm pale or if I look older than I really am, I'm not doing my job then.'''

Alexander also revealed he tries not to think about the intense 'True Blood' fans because he doesn't want vanity to distract from his work.

He said: ''Honestly, I don't think too much about it. I think if vanity becomes a part of who you are as an actor...it's important that you let yourself be true to the character.''

Alexander previously revealed he only parties in his hometown of Stockholm, Sweden, because it is the only place he can really let his hair down.

He said: ''I like to party, I like to drink and hang out, but I don't go to clubs very often in LA, but I do when I'm in Stockholm, I go out a lot. My life is better in Stockholm. I recommend it!''

Alexander also says his friends in Sweden help keep him grounded because they won't let his success go to his head.

He revealed: ''We have a saying in Sweden that means, 'Don't be too different. Don't be too good.' It's like, 'We wish you success but not too much success. Don't get carried away.'''
