Former Allman Brothers guitarist Dan Toler has lost his battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aged 65.

He passed away in Florida on Monday (25Feb13), just a few months after his medical condition, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, rendered him unable to speak or play the guitar.

Toler joined The Allman Brothers in the late 1970s with his brother David, and played on the group's 1979 comeback album Enlightened Rogues, 1980's Reach for the Sky and 1981's Brothers of the Road.

The Toler brothers also performed in the Gregg Allman Band throughout the 1980s.

Dan went on to form the Townsend Toler Band with John Townsend and the Renegades of Southern Rock.

Toler was diagnosed with Als just two months after his brother died in June, 2011.
