Alyssa Milano's dog has died.

The 40-year-old actress was left devastated after her beloved pet passed away following a battle with cancer.

She tweeted: ''Rest in peace, my beautiful Diesel. I hope you're playing Frisbee at the dog park in the sky. I love you forever.''

Alyssa - who has a 17-month-old son Milo with her husband David Bugliari - previously took to the micro blogging site to share her concerns about Diesel's health.

Early in January she wrote: ''My dog Diesel is sick. They think it could be liver failure. Please keep him in your prayers. (Thank you.)''

However, she was given bad news about his condition a few week later and tweeted: ''My Diesel has cancer. I'm heartbroken.''

Alyssa isn't the only celebrity to lose a beloved pet recently.

Spice Girls singer Emma Bunton was left distraught after her beloved chocolate Labrador Phoebe - which went missing during a walk in north London- was discovered dead.

She wrote on Twitter: ''To all the amazing people who supported us at this horrible time our precious phoebe has been found and its terrible news, we are devastated (sic)''
