RYAN MURPHY is one of the most in-demand script writers in the world right now, and the recent Golden Globe nominations will have pushed his profile onto an even higher plain. Murphy has become accustomed to success as the writer behind globally huge musical comedy Glee, but the 2012 awards will see his latest offering up for a gong too - 'American Horror Story' has been nominated in the Best Drama category, proving that the 46 year-old is more than just a one-trick pony.

While 'Glee' is also among the names nominated - appearing in the 'Best Comedy' section - what makes things a little sweeter for Murphy is that 'Horror Story' actress Jessica Lange has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. Speaking to Yahoo!, Murphy admitted his delight at the new show's recognition, saying "I'm always thrilled about Glee, but I think the American Horror Story one feels particularly sweet." The star went on to express how appreciation for the program didn't come quickly, reflecting, "At the beginning of the show, I think people were a little bit confused about how you tell a horror story in an emotional way and that's what we've tried to do."

All the nominees will find out their fate at the awards ceremony on January 15th 2012. British comedian Ricky Gervais returns as host for the third time
