Last night's episode of American Idol (February 8, 2012) contained some dramatic scenes, when one of the contestants collapsed in front of the judges and fell from the stage. The audition took place in Hollywood; this is the second round of the contest, where all of the participants have been seen once by the judges and have been given a 'golden ticket'.
16 year-old Symone Black tried to impress the judges with her rendition of Otis Redding's '(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay', which was preceded by a clip of the teenager talking about the support that she gets from her 'stage dad' father. Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson could both be seen nodding during the performance and when it ended, Jackson asked Symone why she had chosen to sing that song. Symone replied that she had wanted to show that she could appeal to an older audience. Randy Jackson joked, asking the teenager if she was saying that the judges are old, at which point she began to stumble, put her hand to her head and eventually crumpled to the floor, falling off the stage and hitting her head in the process. The show's producers decided to use the incident as the closing scene of the episode, leaving viewers unaware of Symone's eventual well-being.
Jim Carrey's daughter, Jane Carrey also made an appearance in this round of the show. Her celebrity connections didn't get her through the contest, though and she was shown the door after performing a cover of 'Lookin' Out My Back Door' by CREDEENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL.
