On last night's American Idol, Jessica Sanchez refused to let last week's brush with ejection put off her stride. She performed two songs, to an incredibly high standard, proving that the judges were right to use their one 'saves' for the season to rescue her from failure last week.
Firstly, she gave a feisty rendition of Alicia Keys' 'Fallin'.' She took the already challenging vocal and added further nuances to the melody. Her performance was met with a huge cheer from the crowd, who were obviously glad to see her back on the stage once again. Secondly, Jessica sang Otis Redding's 'Try A Little Tenderness.' Dressed in purple capri pants and a leather jacket, Jessica showed her lighter side, growling her way effortlessly through the bluesy classic. She was backed by a brass band and topped off the song with a gutsy long note, with the crowd rapturous once more. If there was any doubt as to whether Jessica should remain in the competition, she eradicated it with those performances last night.
The other surprise appearance in the bottom three last week was Joshua Ledet, who staged his own personal comeback with Fantasia's 'I Believe.' It was a near-faultless performance, vocally, even is the song choice wasn't much of a draw in itself. His rendition of 'A Change is Gonna Come' was a little over-blown, but certainly proved Joshua's commitment to remaining in the contest, if nothing else.
