Amy Winehouse 's posthumous album 'Lioness: Hidden Treasures' hit UK stores last Friday (December 2nd) with her father Mitch Winehouse expressing how much of an emotional ride listening to it had been for he and his family.
The album has been put together by two of the producers who Winehouse worked most closely with, Mark Ronson - who most famously collaborated with the singer on Zutons' cover 'Valerie' - and Salaam Remi who worked with her on debut LP 'Frank'. The album features 12 tracks in all, made up of unreleased material, covers and alternative versions of previously released tracks. Winehouse Snr had full compliance with the release, but ruminating on the album to Itv's 'Daybreak' he admitted "when we [he and ex-wife Janis] went to listen to the album it was a very difficult time for us," reports The Press Association. Continuing, he added "It was very emotional. But we had to sit through it and after the first couple of songs we sort of calmed down a little bit. Our son was there as well and we all had to be in agreement that the album was of the same quality or better, in fact, than 'Frank' and 'Back To Black', and we were more than pleasantly surprised."
Critics haven't wholly agreed, with the UK's Guardian stating "There are early recordings that would probably never have seen the light of day had the artist lived," yet it would be heartless to deny the emotional impact hearing his daughter's voice after her death will have on the grieving father.
