ANGRY BIRDS, the smartphone game phenomenon that been downloaded over 50 million times making it one of the most successful games across any platform, could be adapted into a television series and a possible feature film after the game's developers confirmed they are currently researching the 'Hollywood market'. The game sees players use a slingshot to launch a series of birds at pigs arranged on structures.
Angry Birds is developed by the Finland based 'Rovio Mobile', and the company's chief executive Mikael Hed told C21media.net, "We have been looking at that for quite a while, and that is definitely one of my personal big focus areas right now - to work on broadcast content for Angry Birds" Hed said that the company were unfamiliar with the entertainment industry and therefore have had to do some research, adding, "It was a completely new area for us, we had to get our bearings there and a sense of how the whole market was. That was the first part of the exercise, and now that we've done that, the next part is to move into production, and that's where we are right now". A board game titled 'Angry Birds: Knock on Wood' has already been confirmed for release in May 2011.
Rovio announced a marketing deal for the game in 2010, but Hed did not confirm whether they favour a television or feature film adaptation.
