Anne Hathaway - Anne Hathaway Won't Be Shocking Oscars Host
Anne Hathaway won't mock other celebrities when she co-hosts the Academy Awards because she doesn't feel she has ''earned the right'' to do so.
Anne Hathaway has promised not to mock other celebrities at the Academy Awards.
The 28-year-old actress is set to co-host the ceremony with James Franco on Sunday (27.02.11) but says she wouldn't feel comfortable poking fun at the nominees and other guests, and also doesn't feel she has earned the "right" to do so.
She said: "I can guarantee that if you're looking for someone to call people out, we're not your hosts. I think that humour is really difficult to pull off, and I'm not particularly adept at it. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it.
"Also, I don't mean to sound overly serious, but I am the youngest host in history and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly haven't earned the right to do that."
The 'Devil Wears Prada' star also admitted she only accepted the hosting role after James was on board because he eased some of her fears about presenting such a huge live show - though she claims she now worries about other ways the "unconventional" actor can wreak havoc with the format.
She added in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: "I initially had a knee-jerk reaction, which was 'no.' I just focused on all the ways it could go wrong.
"But (show producer) Bruce Cohen was a bit craftier than I had realised because while I was hosting 'Saturday Night Live' in November, while I was loving the idea of hosting something and doing the song-and-dance thing, Bruce came back and said, 'We have James Franco.'
"James is so brave and so willing to make unconventional choices. All the ways I was worried about it going wrong, it wouldn't go wrong in any of those ways. It could go wrong in entirely new ways."
The 83rd Academy Awards will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
