Vietnam epic Apocalypse Now has topped a list of the top 50 films to see before you die. The war drama, starring Robert Duvall, was selected ahead of Jack Nicholson classic Chinatown, which came in fourth place, and cult favourite Donnie Darko in ninth. Clinching second spot in the poll was 1960 classic The Apartment, starring Jack Lemmon as BUD BAXTER, a struggling clerk in a huge New York insurance company, while Brazilian street drama City of God rounds out the top three. The list, created by an independent panel, promotes a string of more obscure films while blockbusters such as Star Wars and The Godfather do not appear at all. The top ten films are: 1. APOCALYPSE NOW 2. THE APARTMENT 3. CITY OF GOD 4. CHINATOWN 5. Sexy Beast 6. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY 7. North By Northwest 8. A BOUT DE SOUFFLE 9. DONNIE DARKO 10. MANHATTAN.
