Soul legend Aretha Franklin has poured her heart out about a former toyboy lover in the lyrics of a new song.
The Respect singer, who is planning a major comeback following a health scare late last year (10), admits the tracks on her new album, A Woman Falling Out of Love, are her most personal.
And one song in particular, titled How Long I've Been Waiting, chronicles a past heartbreak.
She explains, "I thought my ship had come in and, darling, that wasn't my ship; that was somebody else's ship. We had different goals... and then there was a bit of an age difference."
Franklin tells Access Hollywood, "He thought I was about 20 years younger than I actually am."

Aretha you were the symbol of perfection in singing. You had a voice that I wish I could have had. I can't and never could sing. You were beautiful and very talented. I know we sometimes hurt about things. Believe me I know. I have a different kind of hurt, and I know what it can do if you don't find something else to hold on to right away. A word to you in love, take that beautfiul voice of yours, get yourself back into shape, and give back to the rest of us memories of your talent that we never had. Stay strong and hopeful. Our best Friend is Jesus. Unlike the male species, He won't let you down or leave you all alone.

Aretha, you were the symbol of perfection in singing. You had a voice that so many wish they could have. You were beautiful and talented. I know we sometimes hurt. Believe me I know. I have a different kind of hurt, but we have to find positive ways to deal with it to keep from destroying ourselves. Whoever that male was, he never deserved you in the first place. Most male species like to game play. They haven't grown up yet, no matter what age. They like to see what decent female they can destroy. Instead of being honest and stating their case and feelings in the beginning, they prefer to lie. What they don't think about is if their game was so strong, lying would not be necessary in the first place. The truth is, this male was insecure about himself all along. He had to hurt someone that he felt was vulnerable and who cared about him in a kind way in order to feel better about himself. What does that tell you about him? Keep your head up high, and get out there and give to us the joyful memories we had of your beautiful singing history. I guarantee this wimp will get his, if he hasn't already, and he will live to regret the unnecessary hurt he brought into your life. Love always, a true friend
