Mexican actor Pedro Armendariz, JR. has died at the age of 71.
The veteran star passed away at a hospital in New York on Monday (26Dec11) after a battle with cancer, and his death has already been mourned by Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who released a statement calling him "a great actor who reflected well on Mexico at home and abroad."
Armendariz, Jr., son of actor Pedro Armendariz, enjoyed a career in the spotlight spanning six decades and he secured roles in both his native country and in Hollywood.
He appeared in more than 100 films, including 2005's The Legend of Zoro opposite Antonio Banderas, and with Brad Pitt in 2001 movie The Mexican, as well as 1989's Old Gringo and Once Upon a Time in Mexico in 2003.
The actor also has a role in upcoming film Casa de mi Padre alongside Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna.
