Veteran British actor Arnold Peters has died after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Peters, who had a longrunning role in Bbc radio soap opera The Archers and also enjoyed parts in dozens of U.K. Tv shows, passed away at a care home in England on Saturday (11May13) at the age of 87.

He began his career with a role in hit Tv soap Crossroads in 1964 and went on to star in popular comedies including Only Fools and Horses, Porridge, Dad's Army, and Last of the Summer Wine, but is best known for voicing the character of Jack Woolley in The Archers from 1979 to 2011.

His Archers co-star June Spencer paid tribute to Peters following his death, telling the Bbc, "He loved acting - it was his life."
