Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to star in 'Captive'.

The 64-year-old actor is in talks to star in the independent action move, in which he would play an American real estate mogul living in Brazil who is kidnapped and held in an armoured truck hidden in a Sao Paolo landfill, from which he tries desperately to escape.

No other casting announcements have yet been made, including who will play the detective specialising in kidnap who works to find The Missing man.

According to Deadline.com, Nicolai Filgsig - who wrote the story - had planned to direct the film but has now stepped out to serve as executive producer alongside Eva Maria Daniels.

Once a director has been found for the movie, Emmett/ Furls Films - who are financing the project - hope to start shooting 'Captive' next year.

Arnold's link to the film comes days after it was revealed he will play a "substantial" part in Sylvester Stallone's 'The Expendables 2' after making a brief appearance in the first film.

In the sequel, Bruce Willis - who also made a cameo in the original 2010 movie - is set to play the main villain and Jean-Claude Van Damme his second in command while Arnold's role is as yet unclear.

David Varod, chief executive officer of NU Boyana studios, said: "It is going to be a sequel to the 'The Expendables'. The shooting is going to take place the second week of September. The movie is on, definitely. It will be a very good thing for Bulgaria, since there are some very big stars coming."

When asked who will star in the movie, he added: "Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke. Who else? Of course, Bruce Willis."

'The Expendables 2' is due in cinemas in August 2012.
