Avengers Assemble: Will It Be A Record-breaking Debut?
Anticipation has been mounting for some time for the release of Avengers Assemble, the first time that Marvel Studios have attempted to shoe-horn all of their major comic book heroes into a single, mind-blowing blockbuster. The possibility of a stellar box office opening is starting to look promising, especially if the receipts tally in Australia is anything to go by.
They're not known for huge box office totals, down under, but Avengers: Assemble did a pretty good job of trying to change that reputation. The comic book adaptation has enjoyed a $6million opening in Oz, E! Online have reported, making it the second biggest opener in the country's history. They were only kept from the top spot by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which took over $7 million. So, the Avengers maybe a hardy bunch with an impressive array of super-powers between them but it seems they are still no match for a group of child-wizards.
So far, it's looking good for Avengers: Assemble though, In Taiwan, it enjoyed record-breaking success, which will be great news for the stars of the movie, including Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr, especially for those looking to develop their own character franchises (we're looking at you, Scarlett). This good news will, no doubt be feeding back to Avengers fans in the USA, who will have to wait until May 4, 2012 to watch the movie in their local cinema. Presumably Marvel will be hoping that the building anticipation will have a lucrative effect on US fans.
