Avril Lavigne doesn't feel like she has missed out on life.

The 'What The Hell' singer landed a record deal when she was just 16, but insists she still had a lot of time to experience normal teenage pursuits.

She said: "I had the most normal childhood in a small town and went to high school.

"I had the normal experience. Then, when I was 16, I was gone."

The 26-year-old star also explained she feels her success has lasted so long because she is so comfortable with different groups of people.

She added to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper: "I think I've always just been comfortable with who I am and I never feel I have to fit in with a certain crowd.

"In school, I hung out with all kinds of people from different groups. During my last yer in high school, I was with a skater group.

"I would know people from the goth group and the prep group, but my main group was skating, which meant hanging out with the boys."
