The wife of new dad and The Big Bang Theory star Simon Helberg was forced to abandon her plans for an at-home birth this spring (12), when the threat of a bacterial infection led to a hospital-dash drama.

The couple hired a midwife to deliver its first child earlier this year (12), but Helberg admits things went awry hours after his partner Joceyln Towne went into labour when their baby daughter relieved herself while exiting the womb - a delivery drama which puts the mother's health at risk.

He tells U.S. Tv host David Letterman, "It got to a point where we had to actually transfer to the hospital because the baby, on the way out, had gone to the bathroom and that's an immediate transfer."

The pair welcomed little Adeline at a local medical centre on 8 May (12) and Helberg reveals his in-laws were shaken when he informed them of the happy news via a text - since the message contained a glaring grammatical error.

He adds, "The only people who knew that she was in labour were her parents and her brother, and I'm in charge of communicating with them, so I have to text them. And I'm like, 'They're gonna go crazy when I tell them we're going to the hospital.'

"So I... said, 'Not an emergency. Everything's fine. It's just we're going to the hospital because the baby popped...' It (iPhone) auto-corrected the word... (and) what happens is you get a lot of frantic phone calls."
