Bafta Tv Nominees: 'Appropriate Adult' Leads The Way

'Appropriate Adult,' ITV1's dramatisation of the investigation into serial killer Fred West is leading the nominations at this year's BAFTA Television Awards. Fred West and his wife Rosemary were responsible for some of the grizzliest serial killings in UK history, going on a spree that lasted between 1967 and 1987 resulting in the death of at least 11 young girls - though that figure could be even more.

The ITV1 drama was a two-part piece and received four nominations including best mini-series, best actor for Dominic West and best actress for Emily Watson, according to the BBC. Watson played the fictional 'appropriate adult' character who sat in on police interviews with West. The program pips 'This is England '88' and BBC1 series 'Sherlock Holmes' to the largest nomination totals, the pair having three each - with Benedict Cumberbatch set to go head to head against Dominic West in the best actor category.

The comedy category is traditionally looking like a heavyweight battle, with DARA O'BRIAIN up for best comedy performance for his role as host of popular news-based panel show 'Mock The Week.' He goes up against Graham Norton, Alan Carr and Harry Hill for the gong. Elsewhere other nominations across various categories include Dame Maggie Smith, Martin Freeman, MIRANDA HART and ROMOLA GARAI.
