Basshunter has been cleared of sexual assault charges.

The Swedish Europop musician - real name Jonas Altberg - had been accused of sexually assaulting two teenage girls after he had appeared at Kitty's nightclub in Kirkcaldy, Scotland on December 10 last year.

Acquitting the 'Now You're Gone' hitmaker, sheriff Maxwell Hendry told the court: "I consider in this case the witnesses were neither credible nor reliable."

The girls - both 19 - had claimed Jonas had grabbed them by The Hair and forced their heads toward his crotch, and one further alleged he had pulled up her dress and slapped her bare bottom.

In his defence, Jonas, 26, told the court: "This has never happened in 1,000 shows. I do this five days a week and meet 300,000 people every year and there has never been a complaint about my behaviour.

"I can't remember these girls or really anything from that night because it was a perfect night."

Jonas did, however, admit to being drunk and said he had playfully spanked a girl in the club after she had grabbed his privates.

In his acquittal the Sherriff dismissed evidence given by the alleged victims, saying: "The witnesses' evidence was riddled with inconsistencies and improbabilities.

"They posed for photographs, smiled after the photographs, ignored good advice given to them to contact police and instead contacted a newspaper before giving statements."

Jonas is currently on a break from touring.
