Bbc Slammed For Pop Race Slur
LATEST: The BBC has been slammed by a broadcasting watchdog for airing a racist comment by IGGY POP. The Lust For Life star - real name James Osterberg - was being interviewed at the Glastonbury Festival, England in June (07) when he recalled visiting "Paki shops" in the 1970s. Both the BBC and the singer issued an apology, but Britain's broadcasting watchdog Ofcom say the term breached broadcasting guidelines. It said the BBC "failed in its responsibility to ensure that the offence caused was justified by the context, for example by lessening it through issuing an on-air apology as soon as possible after the incident occurred."
