The Beastie Boys are to headline this year's Bestival festival in the Isle of Wight for their only festival performance in the UK in 2007.

Headlining Friday night are The Chemical Brothers and other performers include The Levellers, Billy Brag and The Maccabees.

Rob da Bank, the Radio 1 DJ who will curate the event, said: "I'm as excited as ever about the acts we've got on board already and the hundreds more to come.

"As for the Sunday headliner, well you'll just have to wait but it'll be worth it."

Ed Simons of The Chemical Brothers said the band was "very excited" to be playing this year.

"It was the best party I went to last summer, I can't believe we Haven't done it yet, we're going to rock the house," he added.

People planning to attend could also raise money for charity by swimming across the Solent with the help of Royal Navy lifeguards.

The three-day event has been named as the best medium-sized festival by the UK Festival Awards and takes place from September 7th to 9th at Robin Hill Country Park in Newport.
