Bellucci: 'I Want No Part Of The Hollywood Tragedy'
Italian siren Monica Bellucci was shocked when she was asked to star in recent fantasy film THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE - because she shuns Hollywood and all it stands for.
The Matrix Reloaded star has only appeared in a handful of big budget American movies, preferring to carve out a career in European art house films instead.
And Bellucci admits she can't believe U.S. directors still approach her to star in their productions - as she is outspoken in her preference of the less image-conscious European film industry.
She tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "I am always really surprised when an American director thinks about me because I'm not part of that business at all. I feel more at home in London, Paris and Rome.
"In America, people are really obsessed with VIPs and all of those things. In Europe it's much easier because everybody knows the difference between an actor and a persona.
"And here (Europe) they're not obsessed with age and weight. Here actresses can work for many years. In America you can be a great actress and have no work by the time you're 40. This is a tragedy, so I don't want to live this tragedy."
