Bet Awards: Jay Z, G.o.o.d Music, Young Money Stay Civil At Ceremony
There've been long standing rumors of friction between members of G.O.O.D Music, Jay Z and Young Money/Cash Money, but none of that was in evidence last night at the 2012 Bet Awards (July 1, 2012), members of the various music collectives sitting near each other and acting cordially throughout.
Earlier this summer it looked like things might kick off after Lil Wayne wrote a song dissing G.O.O.D's PUSHA T in retaliation to what was perceived to be T's own slagging of Drake on his track 'Exodus 23:1'. However, Young Money President MACk Maine has always tried to diffuse the tension between the camps, telling MTV last month "It's not like that. I don't see it like that. That's not what we in the game for. If it ever came to that, God forbid, that's a whole different story, but right now we're just trying to get paper, we're just trying to get money, man, and make good music."
Last night seemed to add solid proof to that claim, with Jay Z and Kanye West sat just seats away from YMCM man Birdman. Big Sean, who won the Best New Artist category, even gave a shout out to YMCM head honcho Lil Wayne during his acceptance speech. Looks like there's no need to panic about rap warfare just yet, then.
