Bette Midler - Bette Midler's Broadway Return Recoups Initial Investment
Bette Midler's stage turn as Hollywood talent agent Sue Mengers is officially a Broadway hit - I'll Eat You Last has recouped its $2.4 million (£1.55 million) investment in less than two months.
The one-woman play, written by Skyfall screenwriter John Logan, began previews on 5 April (13) and opened to rave reviews following its launch on 24 April (13), with the veteran actress earning high praise for her "delicious" and "devine" performance - her first on Broadway in more than 30 years.
The show has also proved popular with fans, who have been flocking to the Booth Theatre in their droves, helping producers turn a profit.
I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers will continue its run to 30 June (13).
Midler isn't the only big star drawing the crowds on Broadway - Tom Hanks' performance in Nora Ephron play Lucky Guy also moved into profit earlier this month (May13) after recouping its $3.6 million (£2.25 million) investment.
