Biffy Clyro won't write songs for other artists.

The Scottish band - who picked up the Best British Band prize at the NME Awards in London last night (27.02.13) - have turned down the opportunity to work with both Robbie Williams and Leona Lewis, because they are too ''selfish'' to give their compositions away.

Frontman Simon Neil told the Daily Star newspaper: ''We got asked to have a writing session with Leona Lewis and play on Robbie Williams' record, but I don't think Robbie needs our help.

''Writing for others is something I'd love to do once we slow down as a band. But if you write a song that you think is one of the best ever, and it's not for our band, I don't know if I'd be happy giving it away.

''I'm a wee bit selfish about it, plus we've got enough side projects, so we've got other outlets. It's a beautiful thing to sit and write songs all day.''

The band also performed their track 'The Captain' at the awards, which also gave a top honour to former The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, declaring him a Godlike Genius.

Johnny performed to close the show, and surprised fans with guest spots from Ronnie Wood and The Vaccines' Justin Young, as well as performing renditions of The Smiths songs 'How Soon is Now' and 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out'.

This morning (28.02.13) he tweeted: ''Was great to have Vaccines Justin Young on 'I Fought The Law' & Ronnie Wood with me on 'How Soon Is Now' last night. Good work fellas (sic).''

After the main show was over Justin, Arctic Monkeys' Matt Helders, Miles Kane and Klaxons Jamie Reynolds were all seen at the after party held at the Wyld Bar in London's W hotel in Leicester Square.
